There isn’t just one career path for nurses at HCA. Our nurses have the opportunity to shape patient care and advance the practice of nursing whether they are at the bedside providing direct patient care or providing leadership to a body of nurses. Here are just a few of the career paths of our nurses have chosen to best fulfill their calling of caring for others.
Erica Rossitto
- 1999 – Erica graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from McNeese State University
- 2000 – Erica begins her journey at HCA as a bedside night nurse in the progressive care unit at HCA’s Swedish Medical Center
- 2001 – She assumes the responsibility of charge nurse
- 2001 – 2007 – Erica continues at Swedish Medical Center in various roles including team coordinator, clinical education coordinator, and interim director and then director of patient care
- 2007 – With the support of HCA’s Executive Development Program, Erica gains the leadership skills needed to lead as associate chief nursing officer
- 2008 – After a year of proven success as associate chief nursing officer, Erica relocates to North Suburban Medical Center where she leads the nursing body as chief nursing officer
- 2013 – Erica continues to use her passion for caring for others to provide leadership to Medical Center of Aurora as chief nursing officer
- 2016 – Less than 20 years after beginning her journey at HCA, Erica assumes the position of chief nurse executive of HCA’s Continental division, where she oversees the nursing practice for eight acute-care inpatient hospitals, one behavioral health campus, and one freestanding rehabilitation hospital
Barbara Griffin
- 1980 – Barbara begins her career as a scrub nurse at a local medical center in Alexandria, Louisiana
- 1994 – While working towards her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Barbara works as an emergency room nurse
- 1995 – Shortly after graduating from Northwestern State University, Barbara is appointed emergency department manager
- 1999 – 2007 As an experienced nurse, Barbara hones her leadership skills in a variety of manager and director roles
- 2007 – With several years of leadership experience, Barbara leads the medicine division, oncology inpatient and outpatient, and rehabilitation unit at a large Baton Rouge hospital as divisional director of nursing. During this time, she receives her Masters of Science in Nursing from Our Lady of the Lake College School of Nursing
- 2013 – Barbara joins the HCA family as director of critical care and telemetry services at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana
- 2015 – Before long, she assumes the role of assistant chief nursing officer
- 2016 – Today Barbara serves as chief nursing officer at Rapides Regional Medical Center, where she leads the practice of nursing for the 328-bed hospital
Cris Tesalona
- 1982 – Cris graduates from a university in the Philippines with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- 1984 – After working in a surgical intensive care unit for a year, Cris immigrates to the United States where she continues to pursue her passion for nursing at a small community hospital in Texas
- 1986 – Cris moves to New York and continues her career in the surgical intensive care unit at a bustling city hospital
- 1989 – After getting married and starting a family, Cris moves to Florida where she begins her career with HCA at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in the med-surg unit and is quickly promoted to charge nurse
- 2001 – Cris serves in several different nursing management and supervisory roles in the med-surg unit before being promoted to director
- 2017 – Today Cris continues to lead this unit at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center. Because of her deep knowledge of the facility, she often provides interim leadership to other units in times of need, and in 2016 her unit was recognized as the top-performing med-surg unit by HCA’s Unit of Distinction program
Lindsay Adkins
- 2012 – Lindsay graduates with honors from University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- 2012 – She begins her career with HCA as a new nurse at Sarah Cannon Center for Blood Cancer at TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. For the last five years she’s fulfilled her calling caring for others in the hematology and bone marrow transplant unit where she’s served as a relief charge nurse, preceptor, member of the medical surgical council and unit chairman of the nurse practice council
- 2017 – Lindsay is selected out of more than 5,800 nurses at 22 hospitals in her division as a recipient for the annual HCA Excellence in Nursing Award for Compassionate Care
